Any time you chow down on sweet or starchy foods (or enjoy an adult beverage), your body breaks it down into a sugar called glucose, which your body uses for energy.
Meanwhile, your body is also producing a hormone called insulin, which it uses to balance out the glucose in your blood. The two exist in a delicate balance … and when that balance is thrown off, it leaves our bodies feeling “not so good.”
Over time, this imbalance can lead to health issues, weight gain, and Type 2 Diabetes.
It’s also treatable through Ayurveda.
Type 2 Diabetes and Ayurveda
The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes represents one of the greatest public health challenges in the 21st century. Current treatment costs for T2D accounts for 7–14% of total health care spending across all regions of the globe regardless of income (Zhang 293). And by 2035 this preventable healthcare burden is projected to affect 592 million people.
These predictions, however, are not predestined. Identifying dietary and lifestyle factors that cause Type 2 Diabetes is a priority for health professionals across the world. Prameha was the Ayurvedic discovery of diabetes mellitus (T2D) thousands of years ago.
